Letter from the heart

Dear A,

I’m sorry we haven’t seen each other for so long. I know we’ve had our differences but I don’t want it to end this way. It’s not you, it’s me. Sometimes things just come between us – you know; time, work, kids, weather. I just want you to know I still care about you and I still want you to be part of my life. It’s not easy trying to maintain a relationship like this, especially a long distance one. I know ย you’re only a mile or so away, but it’s not like you’re in the back garden, is it? I’ve loved you since I first stepped foot on you five years ago. There are those who would like us to split up (Unhusband reckons we’ve got enough to cope without you in the equation.) He’s just jealous. But I can’t abandon you now. We need each other.

I know in relationships you’re supposed to weather the storms together, but seriously these storms take the piss. ย There are some you can weather on your own. And my wellies have got holes in them. It’s not like much grows at this time of year anyway, especially as the purple sprouting broccoli seems to hate me. Thanks for the parsnips and leeks ย – I’ll try and come and dig a few of those up soon. Though last time I looked those leeks were pretty anorexic.

Anyway, I’m still thinking of you and I’ll be back soon, I promise. (Just as soon as it stops pissing down and I manage to get a bit more sleep.)

Miss you,

ps – I wish you’d try and control those bloody slugs. And the couch grass.

  1. Oh, I feel exactly the same. It’s hard managing an allotment all on your own isn’t it. I haven’t been to mine for ages either, mostly because of the rain. But the love is still there, despite the overwhelming feeling sometimes. Wishing you a nice dry spell.

  2. Love this, spot on and very dry (in the funny sense)

  3. Ha! Very good – ‘cept the slugs not only are they a menace but a valuable drain on beer supplies!

  4. I’m feeling very much the same about my own allotment ๐Ÿ™

  5. Hoping the rains stops soon – for both you and your beloved A ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. This made me smile ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Thank you for my giggles today. I so feel the same way – I should get out, but it is so cold, rainy and quite frankly there are better things to do. My poor garden is neglected, but you’d think it could take on a few of the chores until it warms. Good luck with the slugs!

  8. sending some sunshine your way!

  9. Fingers crossed that the rain is subsiding soon and you can get back to it ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. Chuckle! This is me too. I’ve been sending OH there to dig up the bloomin couch grass. I’ll be back there when the sun starts shining.

  11. Lol this made me giggle. We had a freak sunny day at the weekend so we went down to our allotment for the first time in ages! Got a load of bits planted up which is good ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Great post – so so real. I’m just starting out on my allotment and I’m still in the honeymoon phase I suppose. Still frustrating to not be able to get going properly! Hope you get some better weather soon.
